Royal Court unveils cast and team for Georgie Dettmer’s Are You Watching?

The Royal Court Theatre has revealed the cast and creative team for the world premiere of Georgie Dettmer’s new play Are You Watching?, which opens in May 2026. The production explores digital voyeurism and is set to provoke audiences with its urgent themes and inventive staging.

Are You Watching? will receive its first performances at the Royal Court from Friday 29 May until Saturday 4 July 2026, with press night scheduled for Thursday 4 June. Directed by Jess Edwards, the play delves into the unsettling dynamics of online horror and the uneasy relationship between viewers and what they consume.

The cast comprises Kosar Ali, Billy Bolt, Abby McCann, Lucy McCormick, Maimuna Memon, and Nicholas Rowe. Dettmer described the play as emerging from her own experiences of witnessing disturbing content on the internet, framing it as a call for audiences to bear witness collectively, “with no screens in sight.”

Edwards commented on the production’s focus, noting the play “asks us to look directly at where we invest our attention” and combines the “darkest of human nature with catharsis and wit.” This approach aims to confront the audience with their own compulsion to keep watching unsettling material.

The creative team includes designer Georgia Wilmot, lighting designer Bethany Gupwell, composer and sound designer XANA, casting director Saffeya Shebli, dramaturg Gillian Greer, intimacy coordinator Joana Nastari, and assistant director Yanni Ng.

Are You Watching? is supported by Genesis Next Generation at the Royal Court, part of the Genesis Foundation Project, and also benefits from the Concord Theatricals Unpublished Playwrights Award, positioning it within a network of initiatives supporting emerging theatrical voices.
