Pitlochry Festival Theatre announces full cast for Scottish premiere of Once

Pitlochry Festival Theatre has revealed the full casting for the Scottish premiere of the musical Once, which will run from 23 May to 27 June 2026. The production opens Alan Cumming’s first season as artistic director, marking a significant moment for the theatre.

The musical Once, based on John Carney’s 2007 film and featuring music and lyrics by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, will be staged in Pitlochry’s main auditorium next year. The story centres on Guy, a Dublin street musician about to give up his craft, and Girl, a Czech immigrant who encourages him to continue. Together, they form an unlikely partnership with a group of musicians to record an album.

The production is directed by John Tiffany, with design by Bob Crowley. Movement is choreographed by Steven Hoggett, and music supervision and orchestrations are by Martin Lowe. Lighting is by Natasha Katz, sound by Clive Goodwin and casting by Stuart Burt.

Leading the cast as Guy is Dylan Wood, known for his recent role as Orpheus in Hadestown. Lydia White plays Girl, while other cast members include Connor Going as Emcee/Eamonn, Allison Harding as Barushka, Laurie Jamieson as Bank Manager, Sean McLevy as Da, Loren O’Dair as Reza/Girlfriend, Loris Scarpa as Sve c, Jos Slovick as Andrej and Charlie West as Billy.

Once premiered on Broadway in 2012 and won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical. It features the Oscar-winning song “Falling Slowly” and has been noted for its intimate storytelling and folk-inspired score.

This staging of Once is the opening production for Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s new season under the artistic direction of Alan Cumming, signalling a new chapter for the venue.
