Rachel Zegler wins first Olivier Award for West End debut in Evita
Rachel Zegler has been awarded her first Olivier Award for her performance as Eva Peron in the West End revival of Evita at The London Palladium. The accolade was announced at the ceremony held at the Royal Albert Hall on 12 April.
Rachel Zegler won the Olivier Award for her West End debut role as Eva Peron in Jamie Lloyd’s revival of the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical Evita. The production played at The London Palladium last summer, marking a significant milestone in Zegler’s rising theatre career.
Earlier this year, Zegler also secured two wins at the WhatsOnStage Awards, highlighting her growing acclaim in the British theatre scene. She recently returned to The London Palladium to star alongside Ben Platt in an anniversary concert production of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years.
Diego Andres Rodriguez made his West End debut as Che in the same Evita revival and received a nomination for his lead performance. The production earned three additional Olivier nominations, including Best Musical Revival and a nod for Jon Clark’s lighting design.
Fabian Aloise won Best Choreography for his work on the Evita revival, underscoring the production’s strong creative team. The revival’s recognition at the Oliviers reflects continued interest in reviving classic musicals with fresh talent and contemporary interpretations.
