Almeida Theatre announces full cast and team for Cleansed revival

The Almeida Theatre has revealed the full cast and creative team for a new production of Sarah Kane’s Cleansed, directed by Rebecca Frecknall. The revival joins a trilogy of contemporary plays exploring life in Islington.

The Almeida Theatre has confirmed casting for its upcoming revival of Sarah Kane’s contemporary classic Cleansed. The production will be directed by Rebecca Frecknall and features a cast including Leo Bill, Pearl Chanda, Luke Cinque-White, Lizzy Connolly, Jack Riddiford, Parth Thakerar, and Stuart Thompson.

A robust creative team supports the production. Madeleine Girling serves as set designer, while costume design is overseen by Debbie Duru. Lighting is by Lee Curran and sound by George Dennis. Composer Angus MacRae contributes original music, and intimacy direction is led by Ingrid Mackinnon. Other key roles include casting director Julia Horan and fight director Sam Lyon Behan.

Additional creative collaborators include Chris Fisher providing illusions, Olivia Ward supervising costumes, and Roberta Zuric as assistant director. This level of detailed creative support reflects Almeida’s commitment to high production values for the revival.

Alongside Cleansed, the Almeida is presenting the final play in a trilogy exploring life in Islington. Stephanie Bain’s 1000 (Millennia) is produced in partnership with All Change, Arsenal in the Community, and Cardboard Citizens, running 9 to 11 July at the venue.

1000 (Millennia) involves a diverse creative team led by creative director Dani Parr, with multiple directors including Montel Douglas and Jordana Golbourn, among others. The production also features movement direction by Darragh O’Leary and design contributions from Kate Bunce, Georgie Lynch, and Fraser Craig.

This programming signals Almeida’s ongoing exploration of local narratives and contemporary theatre, framing Sarah Kane’s work and new voices within the community context of Islington.
