Charlie Brooks and Joe McFadden cast in Curious Incident UK tour

Casting has been announced for the revival of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, with Charlie Brooks and Joe McFadden set to star as the protagonist’s parents. This new production will open at Birmingham Rep in September 2026 before touring extensively across the UK.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, adapted by Simon Stephens from Mark Haddon’s novel, will be directed by Ned Bennett in a co-production between Melting Pot and Birmingham Rep. The play returns to the stage starting with its Birmingham Rep premiere in September 2026 and will then embark on a major UK tour.

Brooks and McFadden have been cast as Judy and Ed, the parents of the central character Chris. Both actors have expressed enthusiasm for joining the production, with Brooks highlighting her admiration for both the book and previous adaptation, and McFadden recalling his strong reaction to the original West End production.

Originally premiered at the National Theatre in 2012, Stephens’ adaptation garnered seven Olivier Awards including Best New Play before transferring to the West End and Broadway. The production has been seen by over five million people worldwide, cementing its status as a modern theatre classic.

The tour itinerary covers numerous venues, beginning with a run at Woking’s New Victoria Theatre in late September 2026, followed by stops in Brighton, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Leicester, York, Liverpool, and Bath. The schedule continues into 2027 with appearances in Edinburgh, Cheltenham, Sunderland, Cambridge, Richmond, Northampton, Manchester, Glasgow, Chester, Aberdeen, Shrewsbury, Bradford, Cardiff, Aylesbury, Southampton, Malvern, and Darlington.

This wide-ranging tour confirms ongoing interest in the play’s compelling story and inventive stagecraft. It will bring the narrative of a young boy with autism and his experience of the world to audiences across the UK over several months.
