Singin’ in the Rain announces extensive 2027 UK and Ireland tour plus London season

Jonathan Church Productions has confirmed a major UK and Ireland tour for Singin’ in the Rain in 2027, including a return season at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London. The production, known for its iconic water effects and choreography, continues to draw audiences with its take on Hollywood’s transition to talking pictures.

Singin’ in the Rain, a musical adaptation of the MGM film about silent film stars Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont, will tour the UK and Ireland throughout 2027. The tour opens at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre from 26 November 2026 to 16 January 2027, followed by stops at numerous venues including Bromley, Belfast, Dublin, and Glasgow.

Following the tour, the production returns to London for a run at Sadler’s Wells Theatre from 2 June to 3 July 2027. At Sadler’s Wells, the show will feature a BSL interpreted post-show talk, a captioned performance, and an audio described performance with a touch tour, highlighting its commitment to accessibility.

The musical features well-known songs such as “Good Morning,” “Make ’em Laugh,” and the titular “Singin’ in the Rain,” with a book by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, and music by Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed. The staging famously uses 14,000 litres of water per performance, creating its signature rain effects.

Directed by Jonathan Church with choreography by Andrew Wright and additional choreography by Jayne Elster, the production design team includes Simon Higlett on design and Tim Mitchell on lighting. Gareth Owen provides sound, Ian Galloway video, and Robert Scott supervises music.

The show’s associate directors and choreographers include Brendan Cull and Kelly Ewins, with Karen Large as associate costume designer. Olivia Laydon manages casting for Jill Green casting, though casting announcements are yet to be made.

Jonathan Church noted the production’s global reach, having been seen by audiences in countries including China, Russia, Japan, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. He expressed particular enthusiasm for reopening the tour at Sheffield Crucible, where his directing career began.

The tour continues after London with dates at Norwich Theatre Royal, The Lowry in Salford, Eastbourne’s Congress Theatre, Nottingham Theatre Royal, and Cardiff’s New Theatre, running through to early September 2027.
