Sam Ryder returns as Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar at Drury Lane

The cast for the autumn production of Jesus Christ Superstar at Theatre Royal Drury Lane has been announced, with Sam Ryder reprising his role as Jesus. The high-profile revival will run for 12 weeks from October and features a strong supporting cast alongside Ryder.

Jesus Christ Superstar will return to Theatre Royal Drury Lane this autumn, featuring Sam Ryder in his second spell as Jesus. He will be joined by Desmonda Cathabel as Mary Magdalene and David Thaxton as Pontius Pilate, continuing the core ensemble from previous productions.

Other principal roles include Bob Harms as Caiaphas, Matty J as Annas, and Phil King as Peter. Casting for the roles of Judas Iscariot, Simon, and King Herod has yet to be announced, with speculation over whether multiple Herod performers will participate during the run.

An extensive ensemble company has also been revealed, including performers such as Koko Alexandra, Jasmine Jules Andrews, and Toyan Thomas-Browne, among others. The diverse cast contributes to the large-scale revival’s dynamic.

Sam Ryder, making his professional stage debut, previously described preparing for the role as an education, immersing himself in West End theatre by attending shows whenever possible. This approach underlines the significance of the role in his emerging theatrical career.

The production will run for 12 weeks starting in October, though further details on casting and scheduling remain to be confirmed. The transfer cements the show’s continued presence in London’s West End.
