Nikki Amuka-Bird and Oliver Chris lead Arcadia cast for West End return

Carrie Cracknell’s acclaimed Old Vic revival of Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia transfers to the West End this summer, with casting confirmed for the production at the Duke of York’s Theatre. The revival marks the first return of Cracknell’s take on the play, which received Olivier nominations earlier this year.

The production, directed by Carrie Cracknell, plays at the Duke of York’s Theatre from 20 June to 12 September 2026, with a press night scheduled for 1 July. The theatre will be reconfigured into the round specifically for this staging.

Nikki Amuka-Bird stars as Hannah Jarvis, joined by Oliver Chris as Bernard Nightingale, with both actors newly cast in this West End transfer. They lead a company including Aaron Anthony, David Buttle, Matthew Doswell, and Yolanda Kettle.

Several cast members from the Old Vic run return, such as Angus Cooper, Seamus Dillane, Tim Frances, Holly Godliman, and Isis Hainsworth, who reprises her Olivier-nominated role as Thomasina Coverly. Matthew Steer also returns, with Alex Britt, Peta Cornish, and Keziah Hayes as understudies.

The original Old Vic production played from 24 January to 21 March 2026, during Matthew Warchus’s final season as artistic director. It was the first staging of Arcadia at the Old Vic and attracted two Olivier Award nominations earlier this year.

Arcadia, which premiered at the National Theatre in 1993 and earned the Olivier Award for Best Play, was Tom Stoppard’s creation until his death in November 2025 aged 88. This West End run at the Duke of York’s marks the second time the theatre has hosted the play, following David Leveaux’s 2009 production.

Carrie Cracknell leads a creative team including Alex Eales (set design), Suzanne Cave (costumes), Guy Hoare (lighting), Donato Wharton (sound), Ira Mandela Siobhan (movement), Stuart Earl (composer), and Serena Hill (casting). The production is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions alongside Winkler and Smalberg.

Amuka-Bird called Hannah Jarvis “a fascinating woman – fiercely intelligent, endlessly curious, always searching for the truth,” while Chris said he was “captivated” by Cracknell’s original Old Vic staging and eager to explore the role of Bernard in the West End.
