Jessica Vosk speaks out after fan gains access to Broadway dressing room

Broadway star Jessica Vosk has shared a distressing experience in which a fan managed to enter her dressing room backstage during the run of Beaches. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about performer safety amid fan interactions.

Jessica Vosk, currently starring as Cee Cee Bloom in the new musical Beaches at the Majestic Theatre, described a “really scary” incident in a 106-second Instagram video posted on Sunday, 17 May. She explained that a self-described “super fan” followed a group of her guests backstage and gained access to her dressing room after the show.

Vosk initially believed the person was a guest of her entourage, greeting them and engaging in conversation about the show. After about ten minutes, the individual admitted they were not supposed to be there and revealed how they had managed to get backstage, though Vosk said she does not know the details of how it happened.

The Grammy-nominated performer, known for roles in Wicked, Waitress, and Hell’s Kitchen, emphasised the discomfort and fear the incident caused. She said it placed her in a “really crappy ass position” as an actor and warned fans against attempting to sneak backstage to dressing rooms.

Vosk noted that she has not been stage door’ing for this show, citing the physical demands of the role and her busy schedule. She appealed directly to fans, explaining that while sneaking backstage might not feel threatening to them, it is a frightening experience for performers.

This is not an isolated case; musical theatre star Lea Salonga also recently reported similar incidents during performances in New York, indicating an industry-wide concern over fan boundaries and performer safety.

The event underscores ongoing conversations about the security of performers in intimate theatre environments as fan enthusiasm sometimes crosses personal and professional limits.
