Maureen Lipman’s Allegra transfers to West End’s Harold Pinter Theatre

Peter Quilter’s Allegra, starring Maureen Lipman, will play a limited West End run at the Harold Pinter Theatre from 8 July to 8 August 2026. The production arrives after a UK tour and highlights Lipman’s return to London’s main stage.

Allegra, a play about a woman whose zest for life bursts out in spontaneous song, will transfer to the Harold Pinter Theatre for four weeks next summer. Maureen Lipman, who last appeared in the West End in Rose in 2023, leads the cast in Quilter’s newest work, directed and choreographed by Stephen Mear.

Lipman and Mear reunite more than 25 years after first working together on the National Theatre’s staging of Oklahoma! Joining the cast are John Middleton, known from Emmerdale, Elizabeth Bower from Trollied, and Bailey Patrick of London Kills.

The production features a creative team including Justin Williams on set and costume design, Samuel Biondolillo as lighting designer, Russell Ditchfield on sound, and Ben Bull overseeing video design. Production and tour management are by Thomas Hopkins Productions, which also handles general management and tour bookings, with casting by Rob Kelly.

Producer Thomas Hopkins described working again with Lipman as “an absolute privilege” and called Allegra “the gift we all need” for bringing its joyful tone to the West End stage. The production is put on by a partnership including Thomas Hopkins Productions, SAMS Entertainment, Melissa and Bradford Coolidge, and Trunfio McGill, alongside a group of co-producers.

The run at the Harold Pinter Theatre comes directly after an ongoing UK tour, marking a continued spotlight on Quilter’s work and Lipman’s enduring presence on British stages. Details beyond the announced dates have yet to be confirmed.
