Avenue Q extends West End run to January 2027 for 20th anniversary
Avenue Q has extended its West End season at the Shaftesbury Theatre, continuing its revived run through to 3 January 2027. The return of the celebrated musical marks its 20th anniversary and reflects ongoing audience enthusiasm.
The new production of Avenue Q opened at the Shaftesbury Theatre to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the show’s original debut. Written by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, with a book by Jeff Whitty, the musical follows Princeton, a recent college graduate navigating life in a dilapidated New York apartment block alongside eccentric neighbours.
Produced by Kevin McCollum and Jamie Wilson Productions, this revival features the original Broadway puppets and reunites members of the creative team behind the musical’s premiere. The staging combines the show’s characteristic humour with its distinctive puppet characters.
Producers expressed delight at the response, stating the show “has once again struck a chord with audiences, as well as with a whole new generation of theatregoers.” They highlighted the musical’s enduring appeal, citing its “timeless wit, unforgettable score and the way its themes still resonate so strongly today.”
With the extension, Avenue Q’s limited season at the Shaftesbury Theatre now runs until early 2027. This underlines the production’s revived popularity and its relevance in contemporary theatre discussions.
Avenue Q’s revival contributes to a broader trend of revisiting iconic musicals with fresh productions that engage both nostalgic fans and new audiences. The show’s blend of comedy, puppetry, and honest drama continues to find resonance in the West End theatre landscape.
