Arthur Pita’s The Little Match Girl returns to Wilton’s Music Hall for Christmas 2026

Wilton’s Music Hall has announced the return of Arthur Pita’s festive production The Little Match Girl, running from 3 December 2026 to 2 January 2027. The revival brings a dance, song and live music adaptation of the classic Hans Christian Andersen story to the historic London venue.

The Little Match Girl, directed and choreographed by Arthur Pita, is set on a snow-covered Christmas Eve in an imagined Italian town. The production combines dance, song and live music composed by Frank Moon, and was originally commissioned by DanceEast.

Since its 2013 premiere, the show has been revived for festive seasons at Sadler’s Wells and the Lilian Baylis Studio, alongside national and international tours. In 2025, it received the Hans Christian Andersen Award in Odense.

Pita described Wilton’s Music Hall as an “extraordinary” space and said he was “absolutely thrilled” to bring the production to the venue. The creative team also includes composer Frank Moon and Yann Seabra as set and costume designer.

Produced by Ballo Arthur Pita and supported by Arts Council England, casting details for The Little Match Girl’s Wilton’s run are yet to be announced.

The production’s blend of theatre and dance reimagines Andersen’s classic in a way that highlights the company’s long-standing engagement with festive storytelling. The 2026 engagement continues the work’s evolving life within the UK’s vibrant seasonal theatre landscape.
