Midsomer Murders stage play to tour UK and Ireland in 2027

The stage adaptation of Midsomer Murders, titled The Killings at Badger’s Drift, will return for a UK tour in 2027. The production follows the popular ITV detective series and stars Daniel Casey as Inspector Barnaby.

Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift, adapted by Guy Unsworth from Caroline Graham’s book and the ITV show, will tour numerous venues across the UK in 2027. The play centres on Inspector Barnaby and Sergeant Troy investigating the murder of Emily Simpson in the village of Badger’s Drift.

Daniel Casey, who originally played Sergeant Troy on ITV from 1997 to 2008 and starred as Inspector Barnaby in the world premiere stage production, will reprise his role for the 2027 tour. Further casting announcements are expected.

The production is staged by Nicholson Green Productions and Colin Ingram Ltd, with Unsworth directing. The creative team includes designer David Woodhead, lighting designer Matt Haskins, composer Max Pappenheim, sound designer Ella Wahlström, and casting director Ginny Schiller.

The 2027 tour will start at the Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham on 23 April and then visit major theatres including the Edinburgh Festival Theatre, Milton Keynes Theatre, Hull New Theatre, Belfast Grand Opera House, and Liverpool Playhouse, among others. Dates run through to late July 2027, with additional venues yet to be confirmed.

The current 2026 leg of the tour is playing in Dublin and will conclude at Theatre Royal Bath in June. This ongoing run precedes the 2027 schedule, indicating sustained interest in bringing the series’ murder mysteries to life on stage.

This tour follows the popular ITV adaptation’s long-standing appeal and marks a continued presence of Midsomer Murders in live theatre, adapting familiar characters and stories for a dedicated audience.
