Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis’s Warriors musical to open on Broadway in 2027

The Warriors, a new musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis, will premiere on Broadway in spring 2027, bringing a cult film story to the stage with a high-profile creative team. The announcement sets anticipation for a fresh theatrical interpretation of a classic New York City gang narrative.

The Warriors will begin previews at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in March 2027, with an official opening night planned for April. Tickets will become available in October 2026, with advance sign-up offered through the production’s website.

Directed by Jenny Koons and co-directed and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, the musical tells the story of a New York City gang journeying from Coney Island to the Bronx after being falsely accused of murdering a rival gang leader named Cyrus. The stage adaptation is based on the 1979 Paramount Pictures film and Sol Yurick’s original novel.

Paramount Products & Experiences have licensed the stage rights, underpinning the production’s close tie to the source material. The producing team includes Thomas Kail, Miranda, Luis A Miranda Jr, and Jeffrey Seller, names known for their previous high-profile theatrical work.

The design team features David Korins on scenic design, Dede Ayite on costume design, Natasha Katz on lighting design, Jason Crystal on sound, and Hana S Kim on hair and makeup. Music supervision is by Kurt Crowley, with orchestration credits shared by Crowley, Scott Wasserman, and Mike Elizondo.

The musical originated from a concept album released in October 2024, which was executive produced by Nas with production by Mike Elizondo. This recording featured diverse contributors such as Ms Lauryn Hill, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Marc Anthony, Billy Porter, and Ghostface Killah, among others, and topped the Billboard Compilation Album chart on its debut week.

Casting details and further creative information have yet to be revealed, leaving questions open as anticipation builds for the production’s Broadway arrival.

Warriors symbolizes a growing interest in adapting iconic films and cultural stories on stage through contemporary music and theatre, as demonstrated by the involvement of notable hip-hop and theatre figures in its creation.
