Little Angel Theatre unveils 2026 autumn/winter season celebrating 65 years

Little Angel Theatre has revealed its autumn and winter 2026 season, marking 65 years of producing theatre for young audiences. The programme includes world premieres, returning classics, and a focus on puppetry and storytelling.

The 2026 season at Little Angel Theatre in Islington spans from September to January, offering a mix of new productions and family favourites. The world premiere of Pip and Posy Live on Stage, inspired by the BAFTA-nominated animated series and Axel Scheffler’s picture books, runs from 19 September to 22 November before embarking on a UK tour. This show for ages two to five features performances by Samantha Lane and Barb Jungr, and includes set, puppets, and props designed by Karl Evans Studio.

The Pied Piper: A Rat’s Tale, revealing the real story behind the Pied Piper of Hamelin, plays in the Little Angel Studios from 12 September to 7 November. Written by Michael Fowkes and Steve Tiplady, who also performs, this family show is suitable for audiences over five. Directed by Sally Todd, it features set and puppet design by Fowkes, music by Mikey Kirkpatrick, and lighting by Kate Hounslow.

Returning over the Christmas season is Charlotte Irwin’s Scruff’s Christmas Adventure from 28 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. The production, performed by Mark Esias and directed by Irwin and Alice Bravery, will also tour schools and community venues. Its creative team includes designer Dan Southwell, composer Zara Nunn, and lighting designer Sherry Coenen.

Another seasonal offering, The Snowflake, runs in the Studio from 21 November 2026 to 23 January 2027. This co-production with Birmingham Rep and Polka Theatre is based on Benji Davies’ story and is directed and adapted by Matt Aston. Set and costumes are by Laura McEwen, with lighting by Jonathan Chan and sound design by Julian Butler, supported by associate lighting designer Sam Levy and associate director Katie Haygarth.

Artistic director Samantha Lane and executive director Peta Swindall described the season as a continuation of their 65th anniversary celebrations, highlighting stories that bring people together and their ongoing commitment to puppetry and imaginative theatre for children and families.

On tour, a new musical adaptation of Dermot O’Leary’s children’s book, Toto the Ninja Cat and the Great Snake Escape, begins a nationwide tour this month. The creative team includes Lane and Jungr, who adapted the work.

Meanwhile, The Pixie and the Christmas Pudding, a musical based on Scandinavian folklore, runs at the Old Town Hall from 5 to 24 December. Suitable for children over four, the show features puppetry and original music by Jungr and Lane, with set and costumes by Mila Sanders, puppets by Lyndie Wright, and lighting by Sherry Coenen.

Additionally, The Smartest Giant in Town, a co-production with Fierylight, plays at St Martin’s Theatre from 9 December 2026 to 3 January 2027. As part of the theatre’s engagement with puppetry, a Q&A panel discussion featuring the puppetry community is scheduled for 23 August.
