A Christmas Carol returns to the Old Vic for tenth festive season

Matthew Warchus’ acclaimed production of A Christmas Carol will mark its tenth year at the Old Vic, continuing a decade-long tradition that has attracted nearly half a million London theatre-goers. The show’s enduring popularity and charitable impact underline its significance in the festive calendar.

A Christmas Carol, adapted by Jack Thorne and directed by Matthew Warchus, will return to the Old Vic for its tenth consecutive festive season, running from 12 November 2026 to 9 January 2027. The production, set in the borough housing the Old Vic, has become a seasonal staple, with tickets going on general sale from 26 February.

Since its debut, the show has played to almost 500,000 people in London alone and has also been staged internationally in America and Australia, in addition to being streamed into homes. This broad reach highlights the production’s lasting appeal and accessibility.

Matthew Warchus reflected on the milestone, describing it as a “great pleasure” to announce the tenth year of the production. He expressed initial hopes for the adaptation’s potential when he asked Jack Thorne to work on the classic Dickens story a decade ago, emphasising that its current international impact was beyond expectation.

The production has raised £2.2 million for charities addressing food deprivation, combining artistic success with a clear social purpose. For many in the audience, attending A Christmas Carol represents their first theatre experience, reflecting its role in engaging new audiences.

Warchus praised the commitment of the casts, crews, musicians, and creative teams who work year after year to keep the show “as fresh, and full of this great story’s power and joy, as it always has been.” This ongoing dedication has helped to maintain the show’s reputation as a cherished festive event.

Further details about the 2026/27 run are yet to be confirmed, with ticket sales set to begin in February. The production’s continued popularity situates it firmly among London’s essential Christmas theatre offerings.
