Agatha Christie’s The Hollow to Tour UK and Ireland from October
A new stage adaptation of Agatha Christie’s thriller The Hollow will launch a UK and Ireland tour starting in October, directed by Lucy Bailey and produced by Fiery Angel. The production promises a fresh take on the classic Hercule Poirot mystery, exploring family tensions and unsettling drama.
The Hollow will open at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury on 9 October before embarking on a nationwide tour extending into 2027. The itinerary includes venues such as Hall for Cornwall in Truro, Richmond Theatre, Grand Opera House Belfast, Newcastle Theatre Royal, New Theatre Cardiff, and Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford, with additional dates to be confirmed.
This new adaptation is penned by playwright Tamsin Oglesby and marks the fifth Christie thriller directed by Lucy Bailey, following successful productions of And Then There Were None, Murder on the Orient Express, and Death on the Nile. The production is a collaboration between Fiery Angel, Agatha Christie Limited, and the Marlowe Theatre.
Set at an English country estate, The Hollow centres on Hercule Poirot, who is drawn into a complex case amidst a glamorous but fraught group of guests. Bailey describes the play as “a portrait of a family clinging to a fading world” where comedy, melancholy, and family tensions build to a violent climax, highlighting a more nuanced and contemporary dimension of Christie’s storytelling.
Henrietta, the modern artist at the heart of the story, observes the emotional chaos surrounding her, while Poirot works to unravel the tragedy that disrupts the fragile social order. Bailey emphasises the story’s enduring themes of people trapped between their current lives and their desires for the future.
James Prichard of Agatha Christie Limited praised the production, stating it “showcases a fascinatingly different facet of my great-grandmother’s storytelling” and expressed excitement for audiences across the UK and Ireland to encounter the play.
The production design is by Joanna Parker, with lighting by Chris Davey and casting by Ginny Schiller. Casting details are to be announced at a later date.
