Ride the Cyclone announces 2026 London run at Southwark Playhouse

The cult musical Ride the Cyclone will return to London for a summer season in 2026 following its successful UK premiere last year. Fans of the show can look forward to a revival at Southwark Playhouse with new performance dates and accessibility options.

Ride the Cyclone, written by Jacob Richmond and Brooke Maxwell, will play at Southwark Playhouse Elephant from 19 June to 22 August 2026. The production will include an additional matinee on 18 August, a captioned performance on 29 July, and a British Sign Language show with dates yet to be confirmed. Tickets for the run will go on sale on 18 March.

The musical tells the story of six teenagers killed in a rollercoaster accident who find themselves trapped in limbo. They compete to convince a mysterious figure why they deserve a second chance at life. The show is a 90-minute piece originally premiered in 2008 at Atomic Vaudeville in British Columbia.

Ride the Cyclone gained wider recognition after its 2015 American debut at Chicago’s Shakespeare Theater and an Off-Broadway transfer to the Lucille Lortel Theatre in 2016. Since then, it has been performed in cities worldwide including Seattle, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Sydney, and Buenos Aires.

The 2021 world premiere cast recording has garnered hundreds of millions of streams on music platforms. Its UK premiere featured highly positive reviews, with WhatsOnStage describing the show as “utterly exhilarating.”

The upcoming Southwark production is directed and choreographed by Lizzi Gee with musical direction by Ben McQuigg. The creative team also includes set and costume designer Ryan Dawson Laight and lighting designer Tim Deiling, among others. Producers are Kevin McCollum, Morris Berchard, and Jack Maple.

Producers expressed excitement about the 2026 return following a sold-out initial run, emphasising the opportunity to welcome audiences who missed out last time. The show is licensed by Concord Theatricals, with casting details to be announced.
