Alan Carr to make West End debut as Claudia Winkleman in The Traitors: On Stage

Alan Carr will star as Claudia Winkleman in The Traitors: On Stage, marking his West End acting debut in a 12-week run starting spring 2027. The production adapts the popular BBC television series into a theatrical experience, blending intense drama with musical performance.

Alan Carr, known for his comedy and appearances on shows like Last One Laughing, will portray the iconic host Claudia Winkleman in The Traitors: On Stage at the Comedy Theatre from 1 April 2027. This marks Carr’s first professional West End acting role, with the show running for a limited 12-week engagement.

The stage adaptation draws on the BBC series hosted by Winkleman, which recently completed its fourth season and includes a highly viewed celebrity edition that attracted 15 million viewers for its 2025 finale. Producers have described the show as a “bold and surprising theatrical performance” designed to offer fans a thrilling new approach to the familiar format.

Carr’s portrayal of Winkleman aims to channel the enigmatic qualities of The Emcee from Cabaret, featuring narration and costume changes throughout the production. Rehearsals have included training for musical numbers composed by Alexander Dragonetti, a former Traitors contestant known for his operatic voice.

Director Robert Hastie, noted for casting actors in convincing portrayals of women, explained the choice of Carr: “Alan’s subtle, serious and inscrutable persona just felt like the ideal match for Claudia’s brilliant turn in the TV show.” Jak Malone, a Tony Award-winning actor, acts as a creative consultant on the project.

Audience involvement is a key element, with some attendees randomly selected each night to participate in the performance, blurring the lines between cast and crowd. Actress Maddy Smedley will appear as herself, delivering her catchphrase “Faithful. Faithful. Faithful. Not sure. Traitor,” which is expected to be a highlight.

The show culminates with Carr performing “The Winner Takes It All” solo at a staged firepit, with a surprise reveal regarding a performer’s fake Welsh accent adding a final twist. VIP packages include a fizzy rosé served in a chalice and a selection of stale pastries, nodding to the programme’s in-jokes.

While little else about the staging or supporting cast has been announced, The Traitors: On Stage promises a creative fusion of theatricality and reality TV, showcasing a new kind of interactive West End experience.
