Andrew Barth Feldman to star in Nero musical at Southwark Playhouse

Andrew Barth Feldman will make his London stage debut this autumn, leading the new musical Nero at Southwark Playhouse. The show, from the creators of Spring Awakening, examines the early life of the infamous Roman emperor.

Andrew Barth Feldman, known for his Broadway role in Dear Evan Hansen and his film work opposite Jennifer Lawrence, will headline Nero at Southwark Playhouse Elephant from 2 November to 5 December 2026, with a press night on 6 November. This marks Feldman’s first appearance on a London stage.

Nero is a new musical with book and lyrics by Steven Sater and music by Duncan Sheik, the award-winning duo behind Spring Awakening. The production is directed by Lindsay Posner.

The musical centres on Nero’s youth before he rose to historical notoriety, exploring his ambitions as an artist and performer rather than his infamous legacy as emperor.

The creative team supporting the production features James Cousins as choreographer, Phil Bateman as musical supervisor and vocal arranger, and Ben McQuigg as musical director. Design credits include Georgia Lowe (designer), Robbie Butler (lighting), and Tony Gayle (sound).

Casting was overseen by Harry Blumenau, with associate choreography by Georges Hanns. Costume supervision is by Maybelle Laye, and props are managed by Eve.

The production is staged by SeenSee Company in partnership with Park Myung Sung, and general management is handled by Lambert Jackson. Tickets for Nero are currently on sale.

This new musical revival by the Spring Awakening team adds to the ongoing London interest in reexamining historical figures through contemporary theatre.
