The King’s Speech to tour UK in 2027 following Barn Theatre run
The stage adaptation of The King’s Speech will tour the UK in early 2027, after a stint at Cirencester’s Barn Theatre later this year. Directed by Loveday Ingram, the production revisits David Seidler’s Oscar-winning screenplay about King George VI’s struggle with stammering.
The King’s Speech will open at the Barn Theatre in Cirencester from 9 October to 7 November 2026, before launching a UK-wide tour starting at Oxford Playhouse on 13 January 2027. The tour will continue through to late June, visiting more than 20 theatres including the Belgrade Theatre Coventry, Theatre Royal Bath, and Liverpool Playhouse.
Adapted for the stage by David Seidler, the play follows the future King George VI as he partners with Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue to overcome his stammer ahead of a crucial wartime broadcast. Loveday Ingram, directing the production, said she is delighted to return to the Barn Theatre and praised the story for its heartfelt exploration of trust, courage, and leadership rooted in humanity rather than perfection.
Iwan Lewis, chief executive and artistic director of the Barn Theatre, highlighted the theatre’s commitment to developing work with enduring life beyond its own stage. He emphasised the importance of partnerships such as with Tiny Giant Entertainment in sustaining ambitious productions amid industry challenges.
The full casting and creative team for The King’s Speech are yet to be announced. The tour itinerary includes venues across England, Scotland, and Wales spanning from January to June 2027.
This production underlines the growing trend of regional theatres collaborating to deliver touring shows with a broad reach. The ongoing touring model aims to enrich UK theatre audiences by extending access to high-profile adaptations well beyond London-centric runs.
