Full cast revealed for Alan Cumming-directed I’ll Be Seeing You at Pitlochry

Pitlochry Festival Theatre has unveiled the full cast for the world premiere of I’ll Be Seeing You, a new play by Martin Sherman. Directed by Alan Cumming, the production explores the complex identity of entertainer Liberace.

Pitlochry Festival Theatre will stage Martin Sherman’s new play I’ll Be Seeing You from 12 September to 11 October in its studio space. The production forms part of Alan Cumming’s debut season as artistic director at the venue.

The play centres on a young writer trying to create a play about Liberace, the iconic entertainer who concealed his true self behind a persona of performance and glamour. Simon Russell Beale and Fra Fee will lead the cast, portraying Liberace and the writer respectively.

Joining them are Adam Kashmiry, Anne Lacey, Ali Watt, Greg Powrie, and Martin Sherman himself, making his stage acting debut. The creative team includes designer Tim Hatley, lighting designer Grant Anderson, choreographer Stuart Wilson, and historical content consultant Jonathan Warren.

Cumming described the world premiere as a “huge event” and promised “a confection like no other” on the Pitlochry stage. He noted that the Liberace Foundation provided access to the entertainer’s Las Vegas collection for research.

The director expressed particular excitement about the cast, calling Russell Beale “great” and highlighting Sherman’s dual role as playwright and performer. He promised an evening unlike any previously seen at the theatre in the Scottish Highlands.

The production adds to Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s growing profile under Cumming’s leadership, showcasing new work that blends biographical storytelling with theatrical spectacle.
