Jordan Luke Gage to star in Redcliffe musical premiere at Southwark Playhouse

Jordan Luke Gage will lead the cast of Redcliffe, a new musical set in 18th century England, opening at Southwark Playhouse Borough in May 2026. The production marks Gage’s continued involvement with the piece, which he has developed and performed since earlier workshops in 2024.

The premiere of Redcliffe will run from 22 May until 4 July 2026 at Southwark Playhouse Borough, featuring Jordan Luke Gage reprising his role as William, a character he has played since workshops at The Other Palace earlier this year.

The story unfolds in 18th century Bristol, centred on William Critchard and Richard Arnold. It explores the relationship between William, a man of modest background, and a visiting sailor, prompting both to question their lives and their place in the world.

Joining Gage in the cast are Rebecca Lock as Mother, Daniel Krikler as Richard, Jess Douglas-Welsh as Abigail, Adrian Hansel as Baber, and Melissa Jacques in dual roles as Georgie and Judge. Also featured are Jade Johnson as Landlady, Phoebe Kyriakopoulos as Esther, Joseph Peacock as Arthur, and Steven Serlin as Officer and Felix.

Redcliffe’s book, music and lyrics are entirely by Gage, who is also credited as the creator of the musical. The production is directed by Paul Foster with choreography by Emma Woods.

The creative team includes Andrew Exeter for set design, Martin Hanly on costumes, Matt Hockley handling lighting, and Alastair Penman on sound. Musical supervision is by Katy Richardson, with associate musical direction and orchestrations by Ben Tomalin, supplemented by additional orchestrations from Ben Ferguson.

Support roles on the production team are held by James Anderton as production manager, Ethan Davis as assistant designer, and Will Burton handling casting. The musical’s development benefitted from partnerships with MTFestUK, The Other Palace, and Bill Kenwright Limited.

Redcliffe’s emergence through workshops and now a full-scale production reflects ongoing interest in historically set, character-driven musicals within London’s theatre scene. The show’s blend of period setting and contemporary music aligns with recent trends in new musical theatre development.
