Mischief’s The Comedy About Spies returns to West End with new cast revealed

The Mischief Theatre company has announced the cast for the West End return of The Comedy About Spies, set to play the Adelphi Theatre for eight weeks from August to September 2026. The production garnered awards and nominations in its previous run, making its return noteworthy.

The Comedy About Spies will run at the Adelphi Theatre from 1 August to 26 September 2026, marking a return after its initial 21-week stint in 2025. The show follows a rogue British agent who steals plans for a top-secret weapon, sparking a chaotic hunt involving CIA and KGB spies at London’s Piccadilly Hotel.

Written by Henry Lewis and Henry Shields, the comedy features a young couple, an actor dreaming of playing James Bond, and various double agents caught in the espionage mishap. The production is directed by Matt DiCarlo with executive producer Jonathan Sayer, and supported by a creative team including set designer David Farley and costume designer Deborah Andrews.

The announced cast features original West End members alongside a new addition: Mischief founding member Bryony Corrigan will join as Elena Popova. Returning cast members include David Hearn, Adele James, Chris Leask, and the writers themselves, Lewis and Shields, in acting roles.

The original run won the WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Play and was nominated for an Olivier Award in the Best New Entertainment or Comedy Play category. Performances during that period were also filmed at the Noël Coward Theatre.

Mischief Theatre’s current projects extend beyond The Comedy About Spies, with The Play That Goes Wrong maintaining a West End presence and their first musical, Thespians, concluding a short tour at HOME in July. Additionally, Christmas Carol Goes Wrong is scheduled for a new tour this autumn.

Presented by Kenny Wax and Stage Presence in association with Jo Danvers, The Comedy About Spies’ return underscores Mischief’s continued success in blending inventive writing with theatrical comedy.
