Sting to reprise role in The Last Ship musical at Theatre Royal Drury Lane

Sting will return to the West End stage this autumn in The Last Ship, a newly adapted musical running at Theatre Royal Drury Lane from 22 September to 3 October 2026. The production highlights the musician’s connection to his shipbuilding roots while continuing his global music tour.

Sting is set to reprise his role as Jackie White in a new version of The Last Ship at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane this autumn. The limited engagement runs from 22 September to 3 October 2026, with Sting performing every show alongside his ongoing STING 3.0 World Tour.

Produced by Karl Sydow, the production features a new book by award-winning writer Barney Norris and is directed by Leo Warner. The ensemble includes over 50 performers, and the staging incorporates new songs along with designs by 59, a Journey studio responsible for set and video design.

The Last Ship draws from Sting’s upbringing in Wallsend, a historic shipbuilding town, and explores the impact of the closure of its local shipyard. The narrative centres on Jackie White, the shipyard foreman navigating the community through economic and personal hardships.

Sting described the musical as a tribute to the people and place that shaped him. “I grew up in the shadow of the shipyard… I dreamed of escaping, and I did everything in my power to get away from that life. But the farther I got, the more I realised I needed to understand where I came from and felt I had to give something back,” he said.

The musical features songs such as “Island of Souls,” “All This Time,” and “When We Dance,” which originally appeared on Sting’s 1991 album The Soul Cages. The creative team also includes costume designer Loren Elstein, lighting designer Adam Bassett, sound designer Tom Gibbons, choreographer Rebecca Howell, and musical direction by Richard John.

Prior to the West End run, The Last Ship has been performed in Amsterdam, Brisbane, and Paris, with upcoming shows at the Metropolitan Opera in New York this summer and a return stint in Amsterdam later in the year. Further casting details for the London production are yet to be announced.
