New stage adaptation of The Picture of Dorian Gray to tour UK in 2026

A fresh theatrical adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, directed by Seán Aydon, will embark on a UK tour from October to November 2026, beginning at Watford Palace Theatre. The production explores the timeless tale of eternal youth and its moral consequences.

Tilted Wig, in association with Watford Palace Theatre, will present the new adaptation of The Picture of Dorian Gray, opening at Watford Palace Theatre on 1 October 2026. The story follows Dorian Gray, a man who retains eternal youth and beauty while a portrait of him ages and reflects the impact of his actions.

Seán Aydon, who both adapted and directs the production, has previously toured with works including Spitfire Girls, The School for Scandal, and Frankenstein. His involvement signals a renewed approach to Oscar Wilde’s classic novel through this new touring production.

The UK tour will visit several venues following the initial run in Watford from 1 to 3 October. It will then move to Shakespeare North Playhouse (7–10 October), Eastbourne Theatres (13–17 October), Theatre by the Lake (20–24 October), Theatre Clwyd (27–31 October), and the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre (3–7 November). Additional venues are promised but not yet confirmed.

The production focuses on the moral cost of Dorian Gray’s choices as he pursues a life seemingly without consequence, a core theme of Wilde’s novel. The staging, design, and casting details have yet to be announced.

This tour reflects ongoing interest in adapting classic literary works for contemporary theatre audiences, tapping into enduring themes of vanity, morality, and the supernatural in Wilde’s story.

The Picture of Dorian Gray’s UK tour in late 2026 will offer a modern theatrical interpretation for audiences across multiple regional venues, underlining continued engagement with Wilde’s work in British theatre.
