Peacock Theatre to close temporarily for essential building works
The Peacock Theatre has announced a temporary closure for essential building repairs, leading to the cancellation of its planned run of I’m Every Woman – The Chaka Khan Musical. This development affects scheduled performances and ticket holders alike.
The Peacock Theatre will suspend all performances while undergoing essential building works, as confirmed by Sadler’s Wells, the theatre’s operator. The London School of Economics, the landlord, mandated the closure to carry out the repairs.
As a result, the scheduled run of I’m Every Woman – The Chaka Khan Musical at the Peacock will no longer take place there. Ticket holders affected by the closures will be contacted by the box office with information regarding refunds and rebooking options.
Sadler’s Wells artistic director and chief executive, Alistair Spalding, expressed regret over the disruption, saying the closure was unexpected but necessary. He apologised for the inconvenience caused to audiences and the production team.
The nature and extent of the building works have not been disclosed, and no reopening date has yet been announced for the theatre.
I’m Every Woman – The Chaka Khan Musical will now open at the Hackney Empire from 20 to 25 March before continuing its wider tour.
This temporary closure reflects the challenges venues face in maintaining historic or multi-use spaces, highlighting the ongoing need for infrastructure updates in London’s theatre scene.
