The Scotsman has unveiled the second set of winners for its Fringe First Awards, which recognise outstanding new theatre shows making their world debuts at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This week’s five winners include three from Summerhall, adding to their earlier two awards and cementing the venue’s strong presence at the festival.
The winning shows announced this week are Amnesia at Pleasance Courtyard, Ham at Summerhall, The Distance also at Summerhall, Parasocial Activity at Gilded Balloon, and Salty Brine: How Strange It Is (The Neutral Milk Hotel Show) at Summerhall. Notably, Hotter Project’s Ham is among the winners and is set to transfer to London later this year.
With these additions, five out of the 11 Fringe First winners so far have emerged from Summerhall, highlighting the venue’s significant contribution to new theatre at the festival. Pleasance Courtyard and Gilded Balloon also join the list with their wins this week.
The Fringe First Awards are considered the most prestigious prizes at the festival, celebrating innovation and excellence in new writing and performance. This recognition further elevates the profiles of these premieres within the competitive festival programme.
A third round of winners is expected next week as the festival progresses. Festival-goers and theatre enthusiasts can follow ongoing coverage for further updates on new and notable fringe productions.
