Storyhouse announces Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre 2026 season lineup
Storyhouse has revealed its 2026 open-air season at Grosvenor Park, running from 27 June to 6 September. The programme includes new takes on Robin Hood, a 1960s community drama, and interactive children’s theatre.
The 2026 Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre season runs across the summer, featuring four main productions and a series of community events. The season opens on 27 June and continues until 6 September, offering a mix of contemporary and classic stories performed in the park’s outdoor setting.
Outlaws: A Robin Hood Story runs from 3 July to 23 August. Written by Kieran Lynn and directed by Hannah Noone, the play reimagines the Robin Hood legend through a heist-style narrative set in Sherwood Forest. Known characters from the Robin Hood mythos appear within this fresh interpretation.
From 10 July to 23 August, audiences can see Let the Sun Shine! Written by Helen Redcliffe and directed by Rob Green and Lucy Thatcher, this drama is set in 1969 and explores a community’s response to social change following a music festival’s arrival. It reflects on cultural shifts during this turbulent decade.
A family walkabout production of Peter Pan will take place from 28 July to 13 August. Designed for children under eight and their families, the daytime show invites audiences to move through Grosvenor Park as part of an interactive retelling of the classic story. Audience participation is integral throughout the performance.
Jessica Swale’s Nell Gwynn will be staged from 21 August to 6 September. This production, co-produced with Shakespeare North Playhouse and Theatre by the Lake, dramatizes the life of the Restoration actress and royal mistress, adding historical weight to the season’s offerings.
Beyond theatre, Storyhouse in the Park will host Moonlight Flicks open-air cinema screenings alongside live comedy nights, murder mystery events, yoga sessions, rhyme time and craft activities for families. This broad range of events aims to engage a diverse audience and extend the summer’s cultural programme.
The programme reflects Storyhouse’s continuing commitment to creating an eclectic and accessible open-air theatre experience in Chester, mixing bold new writing with interactive and family-friendly work in an iconic outdoor setting.
