The Comedy About Spies to return to West End Adelphi Theatre in summer 2026
Mischief’s hit comedy The Comedy About Spies will resume its West End run at the Adelphi Theatre next summer after winning Best New Play at the WhatsOnStage Awards. The eight-week season begins 1 August, bringing back the espionage farce that delighted London audiences in 2025.
The Comedy About Spies, created by Mischief theatre company, has been confirmed to return to the West End for an eight-week run at the Adelphi Theatre from 1 August to 26 September 2026. The announcement was made at the WhatsOnStage Awards ceremony held at The London Palladium, where the play won Best New Play.
Co-writer Henry Lewis and producer Kenny Wax revealed the news while collecting the award. The show previously ran in the West End for 21 weeks throughout 2025 and is also nominated for Best New Entertainment or Comedy Play at the Olivier Awards.
The comedy centres on a rogue British agent who steals plans for a top-secret weapon, triggering a hunt by CIA and KGB spies at London’s Piccadilly Hotel. The plot intertwines a young couple, an actor hoping to become James Bond, and a host of double agents in chaotic pursuit.
Written by Henry Lewis and Henry Shields and directed by Matt DiCarlo, the production features a creative team including David Farley on set design, Deborah Andrews on costume, Shelley Maxwell as movement director, Johanna Town handling lighting, and Jon Fiber from Jollygoodtunes providing sound and music. Executive producer Jonathan Sayer also contributes to the team.
Casting details have yet to be announced. Lewis expressed enthusiasm for the return, describing the Adelphi as “such an incredible venue” and saying the company cannot wait to bring laughter back to the Summer stage.
Priority tickets will be available for 72 hours from 10am on 13 March 2026 via the production’s website, with more than 4,500 reduced-price seats ranging from £19.50 to £49.50. General booking opens at midday on 16 March 2026.
Mischief also plans to continue The Play That Goes Wrong in the West End during 2026. Additionally, the company will launch its first musical, Thespians, at the Mercury Theatre in May, followed by a short tour ending at HOME in July. Christmas Carol Goes Wrong is also scheduled for a festive season return, with further details to come.
Meanwhile, The Play That Goes Wrong will mark nine years in New York in April, having passed 4,000 London performances by May 2025 and continuing worldwide productions in several languages. The Comedy About Spies is presented by Kenny Wax and Stage Presence in association with Jo Danvers.
