The Curious Incident casts Imi Price in gender-switched lead for UK tour

The full cast of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time UK tour has been revealed, featuring Imi Price and Alex Keenan in the newly gender-switched lead roles. The production opens at Birmingham Rep in September, marking a fresh take on Simon Stephens’ acclaimed adaptation.

The new UK tour of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time will open at Birmingham Rep on 5 September before touring the country until May 2027. The production features the lead role of Chris portrayed by Alex Keenan, with alternate Imi Price taking the part in a groundbreaking gender switch for the character.

This marks the first time the central character, originally Chris Boone, has been portrayed by female performers, with corresponding pronouns also switched for the run. Charlie Brooks and Joe McFadden, previously announced, join the cast as Judy and Ed respectively.

Other company members include Bridgette Amofah as Siobhan, Alex Murdoch in multiple roles, and a supporting ensemble of actors covering a variety of parts across the story’s world. The creative team is led by director Ned Bennett with set and costume design by Eleanor Bull and lighting design by Laura Howard.

Stephens’ adaptation of Mark Haddon’s bestselling novel first premiered at the National Theatre in 2012 before transferring to the West End and Broadway. The narrative centres on a gifted teenager investigating the death of a neighbour’s dog, uncovering hidden family truths.

After its Birmingham Rep run from 5 to 19 September, the production will tour across multiple UK venues including Woking, Brighton, Edinburgh, Manchester, Glasgow and Cardiff, concluding on 28 May 2027. This substantial tour represents a significant revisiting of a much-loved contemporary classic with a fresh interpretative approach.
