Tron Theatre reveals autumn/winter 2026 season with Antigone and festive panto
Glasgow’s Tron Theatre has unveiled its autumn/winter 2026 programme, featuring a new adaptation of Sophocles’ Antigone and a festive pantomime celebrating 40 years of Tron pantos. The season includes new productions, special events, and visiting shows from acclaimed companies.
The Tron Theatre Company will open the season with Antigone, running from 18 September to 10 October, with a press night on 22 September. This new adaptation by Lulu Raczka, directed by Finn den Hertog in his Tron debut, presents a contemporary two-hander focusing on Antigone’s defiance to bury her brother and her sister Ismene’s conflict between family loyalty and self-preservation. The production is staged in association with Groupwork.
Following Antigone, the theatre’s festive season features The Snaw Queen, running from 18 November to 31 December with a press night on 20 November. Written, directed by and starring Johnny McKnight, this revival of one of his earlier Tron pantomimes reunites him with original cast member Julie Wilson Nimmo. McKnight plays Santa, also known as Kristine Cagney Kringle, who embarks on a quest alongside Olive the Other Reindeer after Rudie the Red Nosed Reindeer is turned into the Snaw Queen.
The Tron will host two editions of its In Tronversation With… series. On 16 August, McKnight will lead a River City special with cast members including Carmen Pieraccini and Jordan Young, coinciding with the BBC Scotland soap’s final episodes. A second event on 24 October will feature actor Darren Brownlie interviewing McKnight as part of the panto anniversary celebrations.
The visiting programme includes ThickSkin’s thriller It Walks Around the House at Night from 15 to 17 October, Gilded Balloon’s The Big Comedy Roadshow on 18 October featuring Jack Skipper and others, and Belgian company Ontroerend Goed’s Thanks For Being Here on 22 and 23 October, winner of the 2024 Belgian Theatre Festival Audience Award.
As part of the Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival on 20 September, the Tron Theatre will offer guided tours of the building, including the historic Tron Steeple and the James and Robert Adams church auditorium.
Additionally, the venue is marking a decade of its Pay It Forward scheme, which since 2016 has raised more than £140,000 and provided nearly 5,000 free tickets to people from over 90 community groups across Glasgow.
