Alexandra Burke to Star in I’m Every Woman at Hackney Empire After Peacock Theatre Delay

I’m Every Woman – The Chaka Khan Musical will now premiere at London’s Hackney Empire in March due to urgent repairs at the Peacock Theatre, altering original plans for the show’s London debut. The shift highlights challenges faced by theatre productions when venues unexpectedly close.

I’m Every Woman – The Chaka Khan Musical had been scheduled for a March run at the Peacock Theatre, but essential building works at the venue have forced a relocation. The London premiere will instead take place at the Hackney Empire from 20 to 25 March.

Ticket holders for the cancelled Peacock Theatre dates will be contacted by Sadler’s Wells regarding refunds or rebooking options. Following the Hackney Empire run, the production will continue its planned tour to the Belgrade Theatre Coventry from 1 to 4 April and the Congress Theatre, Eastbourne from 7 to 11 April.

Producer Adrian Grant explained that the closure of the Peacock Theatre was only announced days before the sold-out engagement, describing the disruption as “entirely outside of the production’s control.” He expressed pride in the show, developed over more than three years in collaboration with Chaka Khan.

The musical stars Alexandra Burke as Chaka Khan, leading a cast that includes Jordan Frazier as alternate Chaka Khan, Paige Peddie as Taka Boom, and other notable performers portraying figures such as Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, and Stevie Wonder. Burke is scheduled to perform during the Coventry and Eastbourne legs of the tour, with specific dates detailed.

I’m Every Woman charts the life and career of Chaka Khan, featuring her solo hits and acclaimed songs from her time with Rufus including “I Feel for You,” “Tell Me Something Good,” and “Ain’t Nobody.” The production’s book is by Nia T Hill, directed by Racky Plews, with musical supervision by Mark Crossland and choreography by Ebony Clarke.

The creative team also includes Sara Perks on set design, Chris Whybrow on sound, and Zoe Spurr on lighting, with costumes by Natalie Pryce. The production is a collaboration between Adrian Grant Productions and Chaka Khan Enterprises, with several co-producers involved.

Sadler’s Wells has confirmed that the show is scheduled to return in August, though further details are yet to be announced. The relocation to Hackney Empire marks a significant adjustment but keeps the musical’s London premiere on track.
