Mischief announces full cast for new musical Thespians: Greece The Musical
Mischief has revealed the full cast for its first-ever musical, Thespians: Greece The Musical, a comedy set in ancient Greece. The production marks an expansion of the award-winning company’s work into new theatrical territory.
Mischief’s debut musical, Thespians: Greece The Musical, will premiere with a full cast led by Claire-Marie Hall, James Spence and Marc Pickering. The comedy musical, created by Jonathan Sayer with music and lyrics by Ed Zanders, is set on a small Greek island in 534 BC where bards strive to win a prayer competition while inadvertently discovering acting.
Allie Dart takes the role of Rhapsodes and also serves as dance captain. Alongside her, Claire-Marie Hall plays Poly, James Spence stars as Thespis, and Marc Pickering appears as Adonis. Other principal cast members include Luke Latchman as Atlas, Matt Cavendish as Bard, Mia Jerome as Melampus, Rhys Taylor as The Tyrant and supporting roles by Ashley Tucker, Josh Patel-Foster and Curtis Patrick.
The production is directed by Robyn Grant with design by Jasmine Swan and choreography by Melody Sinclair-Marsh. The creative team features David Howe on lighting, Nick Lodge on sound, Ben Smith on musical direction, and Joe Allen as associate director. Casting was led by Lucy Jenkins and Sooki McShane, with executive production by Henry Lewis.
Thespians: Greece The Musical will open at the Mercury Theatre Colchester from 9 to 23 May. Following this initial run, the show will tour several UK theatres, including Theatre Royal Bath, Wyvern Theatre, Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Everyman Theatre, New Theatre Cardiff and HOME Manchester.
Presented in association with HOME Manchester and JPT Productions, the project is produced by Mischief Worldwide Ltd. It offers a fresh comedic take on Greek history through the lens of an innovative new musical, expanding Mischief’s theatrical remit beyond its established comedy roots.
The announcement follows Mischief’s history of inventive theatre productions, now broadening into musical theatre with a story that blends ancient setting and contemporary sensibilities. The production’s tour across multiple venues marks a significant step in reaching wider audiences with Mischief’s latest artistic ventures.
