Samantha Barks to Return as Fantine in Les Misérables for One Week in West End
Samantha Barks will reprise her role as Fantine in Les Misérables at the Sondheim Theatre for a limited eight-performance run in May, marking a significant return to the West End production.
Samantha Barks is set to rejoin the cast of Les Misérables at the Sondheim Theatre from 18 to 23 May, where she will perform as Fantine. This engagement spans just eight performances before Martha Kirby resumes the role on 25 May.
Barks had previously made her West End debut in the show as Éponine, and she reflects on her return to Les Misérables as a “full-circle moment”. She credits the production for shaping her career in both theatre and screen.
The current company includes Ian McIntosh as Jean Valjean, Sam Oladeinde as Javert, and Jess Folley, a WhatsOnStage Award nominee, as Éponine. Other principal cast members are Harry Hepple and Lizzie Bea as the Thénardiers, Thiago Phillip Felizardo as Marius, Izzi Levine as Cosette, and Joe Griffiths-Brown as Enjolras.
Les Misérables, written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg and adapted from Victor Hugo’s novel, is directed by James Powell and Laurence Connor. The production features design inspired by Hugo’s paintings and a creative team including costume designers Andreane Neofitou, Christine Rowland and Paul Wills, lighting by Paule Constable, and music supervision by Stephen Brooker and Alfonso Casado Trigo.
This West End staging includes orchestrations by Stephen Metcalfe, Christopher Jahnke, and Stephen Brooker, based on original orchestrations by John Cameron, with a score complemented by lyrics from Herbert Kretzmer and additional adaptation by James Fenton, Trevor Nunn, and John Caird.
The show recently extended its run until March 2027, with tickets currently available, ensuring that audiences can continue to experience this enduring musical classic well into the future.
