Giovanna Fletcher to lead UK and Ireland tour of Before I Go To Sleep stage debut

Giovanna Fletcher will star in the world premiere stage adaptation of S J Watson’s novel Before I Go To Sleep, embarking on a UK and Ireland tour in early 2027. The production promises to bring the psychological thriller’s chilling story to theatre audiences for the first time.

Before I Go To Sleep, a novel by S J Watson famously adapted into a film starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth, is now receiving its first stage adaptation. Giovanna Fletcher will play Christine, a woman who wakes each day with no memory of the past 20 years, as she uncovers frightening truths about her life.

Rachel Wagstaff, who adapted the book for the stage, and director Loveday Ingram, both of whom worked with Fletcher on The Girl on the Train, reunite for this production. The creative team emphasises the suspenseful and captivating nature of the story that they aim to bring to audiences.

The tour begins at Richmond Theatre from 15 to 23 January 2027 before visiting more than twenty venues across the UK and Ireland including Bath Theatre Royal, Chichester Festival Theatre, and Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre. The run will continue through to late June, concluding at Leeds Grand.

Lighting design is by Jason Taylor, with Josh Andrews producing the show. Additional casting and further members of the creative team have yet to be announced.

S J Watson expressed enthusiasm for the stage version, noting the unexpected longevity and variety of adaptations for the story. The involvement of Fletcher, Wagstaff, and Ingram is described as an ideal partnership to bring Christine’s narrative to theatre.

The stage debut of Before I Go To Sleep joins a growing trend of adapting psychological thrillers for live performances, offering audiences a new medium to experience narratives previously confined to page and screen.
