Peter Polycarpou to Lead UK Tour of Agatha Christie’s The Hollow

A new stage adaptation of Agatha Christie’s The Hollow has announced Peter Polycarpou as Hercule Poirot and extended its UK and Ireland tour dates. The production, directed by Lucy Bailey and penned by Tamsin Oglesby, promises a fresh take on the classic country-house mystery.

The Hollow, adapted for the stage by Tamsin Oglesby, will open at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury on 9 October before touring across the UK and Ireland into May 2027. Peter Polycarpou, known for his WhatsOnStage Award and two Olivier Award nominations, has been cast as the iconic Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. Further casting details are yet to be revealed.

The production is brought to the stage by Fiery Angel, in association with Agatha Christie Limited and the Marlowe Theatre. Lucy Bailey, directing this adaptation, has a strong track record with Christie’s works, having led tours of And Then There Were None, Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile.

Bailey describes The Hollow as more than a typical country-house mystery, calling it “a portrait of a family clinging to a fading world, caught between nostalgia and the unsettling pull of the future.” The story revolves around a glamorous gathering at an English country estate where longstanding family tensions boil over into violence.

At the centre of the narrative is Henrietta, a fiercely independent artist witnessing the unraveling chaos, while Poirot is drawn out of retirement to uncover the truth behind the shocking act. Bailey suggests the tension between past and future makes the story feel “startlingly contemporary.”

The tour schedule includes venues such as Hall for Cornwall, Belfast’s Grand Opera House, Cardiff’s New Theatre, and the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin among others, running through major cities until late May 2027. The production features design by Joanna Parker, lighting by Chris Davey and casting by Ginny Schiller.

This marks Lucy Bailey’s fifth Christie adaptation, continuing the recent trend of revisiting classic mysteries with renewed theatrical energy. The extended and comprehensive tour signals strong confidence in the production’s appeal to fans of Christie and detective drama alike.
