Adrian Scarborough and Babatunde Aléshé cast in Market Deeping Model Railway Club premiere

Nottingham Playhouse has announced the cast for the world premiere of The Market Deeping Model Railway Club, a new comedy drama by William Ivory. The production’s blend of humour and poignancy, supported by a strong creative team, marks a notable theatrical event.

The Market Deeping Model Railway Club will open with a cast led by Adrian Scarborough as Chairman Graham and Babatunde Aléshé as Jordan. Other principal roles include Matt Bardock as Chris, Geoffrey Beevers as George, Paul Bradley as Jerry, James Bradshaw as Neil, and Deka Walmsley as Ken. Additional casting is yet to be revealed.

The play is based on a true story centred on a model railway club recovering from vandalism and striving for success at an annual show, which notably attracts supporters such as Rod Stewart. The narrative captures both the warmth and eccentricity of British community life.

Written by William Ivory, The Market Deeping Model Railway Club will be directed by Adam Penford. The creative team also features Soutra Gilmour as designer, Howard Hudson on lighting, Alexandra Faye Braithwaite handling sound and composition, Kay Welch as voice coach, and Ginny Schiller overseeing casting.

Penford expressed enthusiasm about the production, praising the script’s combination of wit and emotional depth. He described the play as “warm-hearted, funny but poignant,” highlighting its whimsical British eccentricity.

The production is sponsored by LNER, partnering with Nottingham Playhouse to bring this new work to the stage. Further details about the run and additional casting will be announced in due course.

This premiere adds to the growing trend of British theatres exploring stories rooted in local communities and lesser-known cultural pastimes, reflecting a continued interest in authentic, character-driven drama.
