Paranormal Activity stage show to open on Broadway this August

The stage adaptation of the Paranormal Activity film series will run at Broadway’s August Wilson Theatre from 14 August, marking a significant transfer after UK and North American tours. The production offers a theatrical exploration of the franchise’s eerie narrative, directed by Felix Barrett of Punchdrunk.

Paranormal Activity, based on the original film series by Oren Peli and produced by Blumhouse and Solana Films, tells the story of James and Lou, a couple who move from Chicago to London only to remain haunted by unexplained disturbances.

The stage adaptation arrives on Broadway after several UK engagements, including a run at London’s Ambassadors Theatre from 8 August to 3 October and a UK tour starting at Richmond Theatre on 5 September. It has also toured North America and appeared in Leeds.

The show is directed by Felix Barrett, founder and artistic director of immersive theatre company Punchdrunk, with a script by Levi Holloway, who previously wrote the thriller Grey House.

The creative team supporting the production includes Fly Davis on set and costume design, Chris Fisher providing illusions, Anna Watson on lighting, Gareth Fry in charge of sound, and Luke Halls overseeing video design. Ginny Schiller leads casting efforts.

Paranormal Activity is produced by Simon Friend and Hanna Osmolska of Melting Pot, alongside Gavin Kalin, Ken Davenport, Jenny King, Patrick Gracey, Jonathan and Rae Corr, and Leeds Playhouse. For the Broadway run, Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse, joins the producing team.

The production has attracted critical praise, with a UK critic describing it as “a hauntingly good stage adaptation.” A podcast discussing its success is also available.

Select UK tickets for the show are on sale now, with the Broadway opening night scheduled for 15 September at the August Wilson Theatre. Full casting announcements are due.
