Billy Elliot musical reveals four new lead boys for West End return

Billy Elliot the Musical has announced the four boys who will lead the upcoming West End revival and new tour of the show, marking a significant moment for the beloved production’s return.

Billy Elliot the Musical, which has been seen by over 10.5 million people worldwide and has won more than 80 international awards, will return to the West End with a fresh cast. The musical follows Billy’s journey from boxing lessons to ballet against the backdrop of the 1984–85 miners’ strike.

The four boys cast in the title role are Noah Mannion, aged 12 from Stockport; Rafferty Smale, aged 12 from Leigh-on-Sea; Spencer Collins, 13, from Los Angeles; and William Gurney, aged 12 from Berkshire. Their casting was announced alongside news that original Billy Elliot Liam Mower will return to the show to play Older Billy.

Billy Elliot was created by writer Lee Hall, who supplied book and lyrics, with direction by Stephen Daldry and choreography by Peter Darling. The show’s score was composed by Elton John, who remains involved in the production.

The musical has achieved huge critical and commercial success, gathering ten Tony Awards and five Olivier Awards among its haul. The return and new tour are highly anticipated by fans of the show, which is rooted in the cultural history of the British miners’ strike.

The casting of four boys across England and abroad reflects the show’s ongoing commitment to nurturing young talent while ensuring the lead role remains dynamic. Additional details on performance dates and venues are yet to be confirmed.
