Derry Girls’ Kathy Kiera Clarke headlines medical drama Heartsink world premiere

The medical drama Heartsink will have its world premiere at Riverside Studios in April, featuring Kathy Kiera Clarke of Derry Girls in a leading role. The play explores a doctor’s experience as a patient, offering a fresh perspective on healthcare.

Heartsink opens at Riverside Studios in Hammersmith on Tuesday 21 April, with a press night on Friday 24 April and runs until Sunday 10 May. Kathy Kiera Clarke, known for her acclaimed role in the series Derry Girls, leads the cast alongside Aden Gillet, Vikash Bhai and Megan Marszal.

Aden Gillet appears as Dr Jeffrey Longford, while Vikash Bhai plays Dr Roofi and Megan Marszal takes on the role of Suzie. The production focuses on a doctor who becomes critically ill and encounters the healthcare system from the patient’s viewpoint.

Written by Farine Clarke, a former GP, the play draws on insider knowledge to present a medical story with authenticity and insight. Sean Turner directs the production.

The creative team also includes Matteo Mastrandrea as designer, Chuma Emembolu on lighting, Hattie North as sound designer, and Ellie Collyer-Bristow as casting director. Performances are staged in Studio 3 at Riverside Studios.

Heartsink adds to a growing number of contemporary medical dramas that interrogate the healthcare experience from multiple angles. The premiere offers audiences a chance to reflect on the challenges faced by both doctors and patients within the system.
