The acclaimed West End production of Anaïs Mitchell’s Hadestown is set to embark on its first UK and Ireland tour, opening at Curve Leicester in February 2027. The musical’s blend of folklore and jazz, alongside its decorated history, makes this nationwide tour a significant event for British theatre audiences.

Hadestown, which won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical in 2019 and two WhatsOnStage Awards, will begin its first tour of the UK and Ireland at Leicester’s Curve theatre on 19 February 2027. The production has enjoyed runs at the National Theatre and the West End’s Lyric Theatre, where it continues to play.

The show’s accolades include Best Supporting Performer in a Musical for Melanie La Barrie and Best Musical Direction/Supervision, highlighting its critical and popular success. The tour will also include a run in Dublin, with further dates yet to be announced.

Producer Mara Isaacs expressed enthusiasm about the tour, emphasising the show’s emotional resonance and the acclaim it has garnered worldwide. “Anaïs Mitchell’s extraordinary score, combined with a story about love and hope in the face of impossible odds, creates an evening in the theatre unlike any other,” Isaacs said.

Mitchell noted how the musical’s score adapts naturally to different British accents and regional idioms, suggesting that the production will find fresh local relevance as it travels. “Our West End casts have taught us that these songs sound right at home in every lilt and brogue,” she said.

Hadestown reinterprets the Greek myths of Orpheus and Eurydice, King Hades and Persephone through modern American folk and New Orleans jazz influences, a distinctive musical fusion that has helped define its identity.

Casting details for the upcoming tour have not yet been released, and further schedule information is pending confirmation. The ongoing West End production will continue its run at the Lyric Theatre during this period.
