Initial cast announced for 2026 revival of Fame the Musical at Theatre Royal Plymouth
Theatre Royal Plymouth has revealed the initial casting for its 2026 revival of Fame the Musical, directed by Tom Jackson Greaves. The production marks 30 years since Fame’s European premiere and revisits the celebrated story of students at New York’s High School of Performing Arts.
The revival of Fame the Musical will run from 28 July to 15 August 2026 at Theatre Royal Plymouth, directed and choreographed by Tom Jackson Greaves with design by Soutra Gilmour. Casting is led by Stuart Burt.
The new production commemorates the 30th anniversary of Fame’s European debut at the same venue in 1995. That original production enjoyed a lengthy West End run of more than a decade and toured internationally, cementing Fame’s stage adaptation as a global phenomenon.
The show features songs from the 1980 film alongside José Fernández’s book, Jacques Levy’s lyrics, and Steve Margoshes’ score. The story follows students through their journey at the High School of Performing Arts in Manhattan as they navigate ambitions and challenges.
The initial casting includes Joe Boyle as Nick Piazza, Megan Ellis as Serena Katz, and Amonik Melaco as Tyrone Jackson. The line-up also features Toby De Salis, Olivia Foster-Browne, James Hastings, Shoko Ito, Elise Marnie, Alicia Maynard, and Talia Palamathanan among others.
Additional casting details, including the actors portraying the teachers, are yet to be announced. The production will showcase a diverse cast to embody the ensemble-driven narrative of youthful creativity and struggle.
Fame’s return to Plymouth reflects ongoing interest in reviving iconic musicals from the 1980s that blend drama, music, and dance to explore complex social and personal themes. This staging promises to reconnect audiences with a milestone of theatre history in the region.
