Julia Grogan’s solo show You’re So Special to run at Soho Theatre Upstairs
Julia Grogan’s new solo production You’re So Special is set for a London run at Soho Theatre Upstairs from 3 to 26 September 2026. The play offers an intimate portrait of a dance teacher grappling with dashed dreams, marking a significant moment in Grogan’s evolving career.
You’re So Special, written and performed by Julia Grogan, will open at Soho Theatre Upstairs in September 2026. The production follows Miss June, a performer and dance teacher who faces disappointment after a cancelled television talent show opportunity, before turning her attention to preparing a baby ballet class for a village hall showcase.
Grogan’s previous work includes Playfight and Gunter, and this new play was developed in collaboration with director Rachel Lemon. The production was initially shaped at Dublin Fringe Festival Studios and is produced by Grace Dickson Productions.
The 65-minute solo show engages with themes of mental health, bereavement, and violence, and features nudity, advising suitability for audiences aged 18 and over. The press night is scheduled for 8 September.
Set against the backdrop of a local dance school, You’re So Special presents a raw exploration of ambition and resilience through the character of Miss June. The intimate setting of Soho Theatre Upstairs suits the personal and introspective tone of the piece.
Julia Grogan’s dual role as writer and performer reflects a trend of artists taking creative control in contemporary theatre, with this production continuing the trajectory of her growing body of work.
With its focus on a small-scale but emotionally complex story, You’re So Special adds to an ongoing discourse on mental health and artistic identity in UK theatre.
