Josh Radnor and Noah Galvin lead world premiere of Hit Machine at Soho Theatre
The full cast of Jonathan Caren’s new play Hit Machine has been revealed, with Josh Radnor and Noah Galvin making their London stage debuts. The production opens at Soho Theatre this July, featuring original music by Grammy winner Ben Harper and a creative team blending theatre and live sound.
Hit Machine, debuting at Soho Theatre from 8 July to 15 August, centres on two estranged brothers – one a record mogul, the other an aspiring musician. Josh Radnor and Noah Galvin take the lead roles in what marks their first appearances on the London stage.
Khalil Madovi has been confirmed as the final cast member. He plays Defy The Leader, a character Caren insisted should be portrayed by a “real musician” with authentic artistic experience. Madovi will also design the production’s sound, integrating his musical versatility into the show’s entire fabric.
Original music is composed by multi-Grammy Award winners Ben Harper and CJ Harper, while direction is handled by Daniel Bailey. The design team includes Amelia Jane Hankin on set and costume, alongside lighting designer Laura Howard.
Hit Machine has already earned recognition, being a finalist for the Eugene O’Neill’s 2025 National Playwright’s Conference. It was also selected for IAMA’s New Works Fest and The Working Theater’s inaugural Stage Left Festival.
Produced by Juliet Berman for Spiral Stairs Entertainment, Kater Gordon and BPM Theatrical, with co-producers Jessica Goldman Foung and Owen Drake, the play’s general management is by James Steel Productions.
The production’s fusion of theatre and live musical performance builds on a growing trend of collaboration between musicians and theatre-makers, underscoring art as a collective endeavour.
