Liza Goddard to Star as Miss Marple in Mill at Sonning’s The Mirror Crack’d Revival

The Mill at Sonning has announced its cast for the revival of Agatha Christie’s The Mirror Crack’d, featuring Liza Goddard as Miss Marple. This stage adaptation by Rachel Wagstaff, directed by Jonathan O’Boyle, promises a fresh take on the classic murder mystery set in St Mary Mead.

The upcoming production of The Mirror Crack’d will run at The Mill at Sonning from 4 September to 31 October, with Liza Goddard taking on the role of the iconic amateur detective Miss Marple. The play follows Miss Marple’s investigation into a death after a gathering at Gossington Hall, uncovering hidden secrets within the village.

Adapted for the stage by Rachel Wagstaff, the production benefits from Jonathan O’Boyle’s direction and features a creative team including designer Michael Holt, costume designer Natalie Titchener, lighting designer Jamie Platt, sound designer Nick Lodge, and casting director Jane Deitch.

Goddard, known for her television work on episodes of Bergerac and Give Us a Clue, as well as her recent theatre credits such as The Croft and Noises Off, described the role as a thrilling opportunity. She commented, “I adore the original book and Rachel Wagstaff has adapted it quite brilliantly for the stage. Even if you know the original story, there are surprises you won’t expect!”

Joining Goddard is a supporting cast led by Sara Crowe as Marina Gregg, Annie Wensak as Dolly Bantry, James Mack as Chief Inspector Craddock, and Saskia Strallen as Lola Brewster. The ensemble also includes Paul Kemble, Jane Quinn, Elysia Showan, Martin Razpopov, and Lydia Kirton.

Goddard noted the connection between the character Miss Marple and Agatha Christie herself, suggesting the detective reflects the author’s own personality. This insight adds a layer of depth to the play’s character-driven investigation.

The Mill at Sonning continues its tradition of staging classic dramas with fresh interpretations, offering Christie fans and theatre-goers an engaging, character-focused whodunit in this latest revival.
