RSC and Kiln Theatre cast announced for 1950s Trinidad-set Driftwood

The Royal Shakespeare Company and Kiln Theatre have revealed the full cast for Driftwood, a new play by Martina Laird set in 1950s Trinidad. The production opens at The Other Place in Stratford-upon-Avon in April 2026 before transferring to Kiln Theatre in June.

Driftwood, directed by Justin Audibert, will run at The Other Place from 17 April to 30 May 2026, with a press night on 28 April. It then moves to Kiln Theatre for a limited run starting 3 June, followed by a press night on 9 June.

The RSC debut of Shane David-Joseph is a highlight, with the actor taking on the role of Seldom. He is joined by Ziggy Heath as Tom and Martins Imhangbe as Diamond, adding further weight to the ensemble.

Roger Ringrose is cast as Mansion, while Ellen Thomas and Cat White take on the parts of Pearl and Ruby respectively. The casting announcement was accompanied by a photograph of Thomas by Jonathan Phang, supplied by the RSC.

The creative team features Sadeysa Greenaway-Bailey as set and costume designer, Simon Spencer as lighting designer, and Christella Litras as composer. Additionally, Tony Gayle handles sound design, Kloé Dean is movement director, Sebastian Born serves as dramaturg, and Matthew Dewsbury is the casting director.

Set in 1950s Trinidad, Driftwood explores themes and narratives that the playwright Martina Laird brings to life with collaboration from the RSC and Kiln Theatre.

The partnership between these two companies continues to bring new and diverse voices to the stage, underlining a shared commitment to presenting stories from across the Commonwealth and beyond.
