Spanish production of Six releases first single ahead of Madrid opening
The Spanish-language version of the hit musical Six has released its debut single “Ex-Wives / Six” ahead of its opening at Madrid’s Teatro Gran Vía in September. This marks the first time the musical will be performed in Spanish.
The new single “Ex-Wives / Six” is now available on digital platforms and features the Madrid cast performing songs from the show adapted into Spanish. An official music video accompanies the release, showcasing the production’s unique take on the musical’s score.
Six retells the stories of Henry VIII’s six wives in a concert-style format, originally created by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss. The Spanish production will play a limited season at the Teatro Gran Vía.
This staging is produced by Julia Gómez Cora and Dmitry Bogachev, in association with Kenny Wax, Wendy and Andy Barnes, and George Stiles, working in collaboration with Grupo Smedia.
Since its 2017 premiere, Six has enjoyed widespread acclaim, including West End and Broadway runs. The show has won over 35 awards internationally, including two Tony Awards, and earned a Grammy nomination for its cast recording.
The creative team for the Spanish production includes set designer Emma Bailey, costume designer Gabriella Slade, lighting by Tim Deiling, choreography by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, sound by Paul Gatehouse, orchestrations by Tom Curran and musical supervision by Joe Beighton. Jamie Armitage directs.
This release reflects an ongoing trend of adapting hit English-language musicals for new international audiences, bringing fresh perspectives to established works while expanding their global reach.
