Trainspotting The Musical full West End cast revealed for 2026 premiere
The complete cast of Trainspotting The Musical has been announced ahead of its West End debut at Theatre Royal Haymarket in July 2026. Based on Irvine Welsh’s novel, the show explores the lives of iconic characters three decades after the original film.
Trainspotting The Musical will open on Wednesday 15 July 2026 at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, marking the world premiere of the stage adaptation. Presented by Phil McIntyre Live, the production is directed and developed by Caroline Jay Ranger, with music and lyrics by Irvine Welsh and Stephen McGuinness.
The musical revisits the characters Renton, Sick Boy, Begbie, Spud, Tommy, and Kelly, continuing their story thirty years after the landmark 1996 film starring Ewan McGregor, which remains the highest-grossing UK film of that year. The film also won a BAFTA Award for Best Screenplay and is included in the British Film Institute’s list of the 100 greatest British films of the 20th century.
Robbie Scott, making his West End debut, will play Renton. He leads a predominantly Scottish cast, joined by Sheridan Townsley as Sick Boy, Kieran Andrew as Spud, Frankie O’Connor as Begbie, Finlay Paul as Tommy, Rebecca McKinnis as Cathy Renton, Gordon Cooper as Davie Renton, Ashley J Russell as Colleen, Rosie Dignan as Alison, Yana Harris as Kelly, and Sophie Hutchinson as Lizzie.
The ensemble includes Ally Kennard, Kieran Brown, Melanie Marshall, Lewis Kidd, Samuel Stewart, Finlay McKillop, Ciara Ennis, Victoria Nicol, Kyra Fyvie, and Chris O’Mara.
Welsh has described the musical as having “a bigger, loudly beating human heart than either the book or the film,” emphasising its blend of reflection and entertainment. He added: “People need to think about the world we’re living in, and we offer that inspection, but they also need to sing their hearts out and laugh their heads off.”
The creative team also features set and costume designer Colin Richmond, musical supervisor and orchestrator Stuart Morley, video designer Douglas O’Connell, choreographer Christina Andrea, lighting designer Ian Scott, sound designer Rory Madden for Sonalyst, associate director Denise Ranger, and casting director Anne Vosser.
Tickets for Trainspotting The Musical are currently on sale. A touring schedule has also been announced separately.
