Heathers the Musical to launch Arts at Marble Arch theatre in July

Heathers the Musical is set to reopen at the new Arts at Marble Arch theatre this summer, marking the venue’s debut production. The London run precedes a UK and Ireland tour and revives the cult hit based on the 1989 film.

Heathers the Musical will open the Arts at Marble Arch— a new 594-seat theatre serving as the Arts Theatre’s temporary home — with a run of 52 performances from 9 July to 22 August. After this, the production will embark on a UK and Ireland tour beginning in Windsor, details of which have been announced.

The show, written by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe, adapts the 1989 cult film starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. Heathers premiered in Los Angeles in 2013 before transferring to New York’s New World Stages in 2014. A revised version opened in London in 2018 and incorporated new material now featured in the current New York production.

Heathers has had three West End runs and three UK and Ireland tours, earning the Best New Musical award at the WhatsOnStage Awards in 2019. It was also filmed for streaming on the Roku Channel in 2022.

The production is directed by Andy Fickman, with choreography by Gary Lloyd, design by David Shields, lighting by Ben Cracknell, sound by Dan Samson, and musical supervision by Jeremy Wootton and Will Joy. The creative team carries forward the show’s distinctive blend of dark comedy and 1980s nostalgia.

Tickets for the London performances went on sale at 10am on Monday 18 May. The choice of Heathers to inaugurate the Arts at Marble Arch reflects the musical’s enduring popularity and the theatre’s ambitions to stage dynamic new work during the Arts Theatre’s temporary relocation.

This run adds to the ongoing life of a show that has become a notable fixture in British musical theatre since its London debut and continues to attract devoted audiences.
